One of Santa Barbara’s big attractions is Stearns Wharf, dividing East Beach from West Beach. Perched on one section of the wharf is the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Sea Center, formerly known as the Ty Warner Sea Center. This photo shows the Sea Center on the right, East Beach, the palm trees along Cabrillo Boulevard, the Riviera, and the Santa Ynez Mountain Range in the distance.

Like the main location of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History tucked behind the Santa Barbara Mission, the Sea Center offers families a myriad of activities and treats for the senses upon entering. Just a few are the newest exhibit Intertidal Wonders where you can put your hand in the water and feel the textures of different tidepool dwellers, experience a live shark touch pool, crawl through a 1,500-gallon tidepool tank to see the ocean life at eye level, see a 39-foot, life-size model of a California Gray whale and her calf, and watch a movie about sea life in the Santa Barbara Channel. Visitors may also be an oceanographer while you test ocean water samples, study marine behavior and view microscopic samples.
